A selection of books that help explain the
allure of this World Heritage site:

country.'
Published by The Mountaineers. ISBN: 0-89886-155-1
A non-technical guide to a geological tour through eight national parks and
eleven national monuments, learning about seabed sediments, dunes of an
ancient Sahara, a fossil forest - every facet of geology to delight lovers
of natural history.
Powell, John Wesley. 'An exploration of the Colorado River and its
canyons.'
A fascinating, well written account of the first descent of the Colorado
river, by the man who would go on to be the first director of the US
Geological Survey.
Schmidt, Jeremy. (1993). 'Grand Canyon National Park.' Published by
Houghton Mifflin. ISBN: 0-395-59932-6
A nicely written, enjoyable read that at the same time gives you a great
deal of insight into all aspects of the Grand Canyon. A good bedside read
before visiting and a useful book to take with you. Recommended by many of
the rangers at the park.
The Grand Canyon National Park bookshop has many
fine publications too.
